For the second time in three weeks, Jahmyr Gibbs is NFC Offensive Player of the Week.
Gibbs earned the distinction again after his record-setting performance in the Detroit Lions’ 34-27 overtime win over the New York Giants, on Sunday, Nov. 23, when he set career highs in receptions (11), rushing yards (219) and scrimmage yards (264) and joined Hall of Famer LaDainian Tomlinson as the only running backs in NFL history with at least 10 receptions and 200 yards rushing in a game.
Gibbs had runs of 49, 49 and 69 yards, and scored the eventual winning touchdown on the first play of overtime.
“That dude’s as good as they come in our league,” Lions quarterback Jared Goff said. “And he’s making his claim across the league as one of the best players, regardless of position, and we’re lucky to have him.”
Gibbs leads the Lions (7-4) with 951 rushing yards and 13 total touchdowns through 11 games.
He also won NFC Player of the Week after running for 142 yards and scoring three touchdowns (two rushing) in a Week 10 win over the Washington Commanders.
Gibbs joins Barry Sanders (11 times), Calvin Johnson (four) and Goff (four) as the only Lions to win at least three Offensive Player of the Week awards. He won his first award in Week 18 last year.
San Francisco 49ers safety Ji’Ayir Brown and Atlanta Falcons kicker Zane Gonzalez were NFC Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively.
