Fear is defined as “an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat.” Over the past year there have been many events that have led us to a society of fear; countless riots, killings, losses of employment, death threats, cancellations, etc.

We now live in a society where our freedom of expression has been subdued by the fear of the inevitable consequences of opposition. This fear has become more of a reality from the support of the current Presidential Administration and people in positions of power and wealth.

Politicians and government officials have changed their stances after falling victim to this new societal norm of cancellations and violence by those who disagree with their position. Companies change their logos, discontinue products, pull advertisements, remove employees holding certain views, etc. in efforts to avoid violence, law suits, cancellations, and more.

During jury selection in the Derek Chauvin hearing resulting from the death of George Floyd, a prospective juror voiced his fear that if selected he could be identified and he and his family would be in danger. His fear is more than understandable as this has been the result of so many people who did what was once considered the right thing to do.

As Christians, we must not fall victim to this fear when we face opposition to our faith. We must stand boldly against attempts to force us and our loved ones to conform to actions and ideologies that go against the teachings of the Bible. We must make our voices heard when we become aware of such things as gender neutrality and guidance toward transgender in schools disguised as equality.

We must be as bold as those who stand against our faith and our Creator. We must not let this fear-induced society prevent us from doing what we know is right in the eyes of the Almighty. Contact your local school board, congressman, etc., and let your voice be heard. Inquire about community meetings on these topics, attend them, and speak in favor of our God. Search online petitions and sign them.

Until next week. Blessings in Yahweh’s grace, mercy, and peace.
