The Stranger

The Stranger was directed by the great Orson Welles, who also starred in the film. It also featured Edward G. Robinson and Loretta Young. The film was released on July 2nd, 1946 and it collected 3.22 million in Box Office sales. Orson Welles is well known for directing Citizen Kane and directing and narrating the popular radio broadcast “The War of the Worlds.”

The Stranger centers on Mr. Wilson (Robinson) of the United Nations War Crimes Commission. Mr. Wilson is tasked with finding a former Nazi fugitive, Franz Kindler (Welles). Kindler has erased all of his past records that may identify him and it under the identity of “Charles Rankin.”
