Coming off a 13-0 victory earlier in the day, the Marysville Vikings carried their momentum into the MHSAA Division II District 60 Softball Championship game over the St. Clair Saints on Saturday, June 5, in Yale, Michigan. They won 11-0.

Marysville came out strong in the top of the first and led from there. On two outs, Kalli Perrin singled to score the runner on second. With two more runs in the third and fifth, the Vikings held a 3-0 heading into the top of the sixth.

The Vikings boasted eight runs to end the game in the top of the sixth inning. The Saints tried to rally, starting with a double by pitcher Claire Borg, but a series of three consecutive outs sealed their fate.

Borg made it through five innings throwing 102 pitches and facing 28 batters. Borg also led the Saints on offense as she cleared three bases. Savana Clark had a single in the bottom of the third on two strikes to get on base. She was left on second, however, after two more outs.

Kirsten Smith pitched all six innings for the Vikings to get the win on the day. She faced 25 batters, throwing 63 strikes and giving up five hits. Much like Borg, Smith led the Viking offense with a triple. Teammate Kaitlyn Cain chipped in with a solid double and cleared three bases.

The Vikings will travel to Armada, Michigan, to play Pontiac Notre Dame, in the first round of the Regional Tournament. The game will be on Saturday, June 12, at 10 a.m.
