It was all about overcoming adversity.
The Port Huron High School girls basketball team showed plenty of toughness and determination on Monday night, in its 46-34 home victory over Port Huron Northern.
If it wasn’t enough to pull out the Macomb Area Conference Red Division victory over their top rivals, the way the Big Reds did it was inspiring in itself.

Port Huron High had to battle through the adversity of losing one of the top players in the area for the entire second half, when senior Emma Trombly suffered a sprained ankle on the final possession of the first half.
After scoring 12 points to lead all scorers in the first half, Trombly suffered the ankle injury on defense right before the half concluded and wouldn’t return.
Her teammates continued to focus on their defensive effort to overcome the loss and were able to pull out the victory.
Ally Shagena had 11 points to lead Port Huron Northern, Camille Keyes added nine points for the Huskies and Jersey McGregor scored seven.
Julia Gilbert also scored 12 points for the Big Reds and Morgan James added all 10 of her points in the second half for Port Huron High.
