Saturday was the 30th outdoor game in NHL history and it was played in front of a massive crowd at Falcon Stadium in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The temperature at puck drop was zero degrees Celsius (32F), and it dropped throughout the game, making for perfect playing conditions.
With overtime looming, Toffoli’s snap shot with 55 seconds left broke a 1-1 tie, and he added his 18th goal of the season into an empty net with five seconds left.
Colorado goalie Philipp Grubauer made 14 saves before leaving after he was hit in the head by teammate Ian Cole as the defenceman was checking Los Angeles forward Austin Wagner.
Grubauer skated off and was replaced by Pavel Francouz at 2:33 of the third with the game tied 1-1.
