It was an off day for most students in the Blue Water Area.
But while many students and teachers throughout the Port Huron Area School District were off Wednesday due to inclement weather, the Port Huron Northern girls basketball team remained hard at work.
Northern would earn a lopsided victory over Macomb Dakota, 53-35.

Northern got a game-high 22 points from Ally Shagena, to go along with eight rebounds in the Macomb Area Conference Red Division victory.
Hannah Toutant scored 10 points to pace Dakota (0-2, 1-2).
“I thought we executed well offensively tonight, particularly in the second half,” Northern coach Kevin Landschoot said. “We were more patient and took advantage of some matchups.
“Our defensive effort was there from start to finish. We had a lot of players step up both on the offensive and defensive end.”
Northern (1-1, 2-2) will return home Friday against Utica Eisenhower.
In other action: The Imlay City boys fell to unbeaten Almont, 73-65.
Joey Savel led Almont (2-0, 4-0) with a game-high 27 points.
Will Tolley and Raymond Liu each scored 12 points for Imlay City (1-1, 3-2) and Beau Hund added nine points while Parker Lewis chipped in seven.
“We got off to a slow start in the second half, our guys kept scrapping, but we ran out of time,” Imlay City coach Don Gauthier said. “We definitely have a couple of things we will learn from. A couple of bright spots were the play of our reserves, especially from junior, Dominic Ljuljduraj, seniors Chris Cezik and Raymond Liu.”
