The “I Will” of the Know

By Allen Domelle, Old Paths Journal

Exodus 29:46

“And they shall know that I am the LORD their God, that brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, that I may dwell among them: I am the LORD their God.”

God loves to show Who He is to His children. God says, “And they shall know that I am the LORD their God…” God wants you to know He is the omnipotent God. God does not want the believer to wander through their Christian walk in doubt of the God who saved them. There were four things that God did for Israel that He does for you to show that He is the LORD.

First, God wants to meet with you to show you that He is God. God says in verse 43, “I will meet with the children of Israel…” God cannot meet with people if they don’t show up for the meeting. God always shows up, but sadly, many believers are sleeping or are too busy to meet with God in His Word. You will never know the greatness of your God if you don’t spend time meeting with Him.

Have you ever had an appointment with someone and they never showed up? It is very irritating that someone would be so arrogant to think that your time is not that valuable to show up or to be there on time. Imagine how the LORD feels when He shows up to meet with you but you are not there. My friend, you will never tap into the knowledge of who the LORD is until you meet with Him regularly.

Second, God wants to sanctify you. God says in verse 44, “And I will sanctify…” To be sanctified is to be conformed into the image of God. God cannot sanctify the believer who doesn’t meet with Him, and He cannot sanctify the believer who fights against the tools He uses to make them more into His image. God uses His Word, trials, and service to Him to conform you into His image. Stop fighting God’s sanctification process and allow Him to conform you into His image.

Third, God wants to dwell among you. God says in verse 45, “And I will dwell among the children of Israel…” The more you conform into God’s image, the more you will desire to dwell with God. Psalm 91:1 says, “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” You will find that you will feel comfortable dwelling with God in prayer the more that you are conformed into His image. The fact that God wants to dwell with you means that you should make prayer a common action throughout the day.

Fourth, God wants to be your God. Verse 45 continues to say, “…and will be their God.” You will see the power of God when you meet with Him, dwell with Him, and are conformed into His image. God shows His power to the individual who is around Him all the time.

My friend, God wants to be your God, and He wants you to get to know Him better. The more time you spend with God, the more you will see His greatness and power. One of the greatest reasons many believers don’t know much about God is because they are dwelling in the world instead of dwelling with Him in His Word and prayer. Never forget the power that God displayed in delivering you from your sins and the world. If you will show up to where God is, you will find that He will be there to show you more about Him. Is God important enough to you to be where He shows up? If He is, you will be where He shows up in your life.
