St. Clair County Sheriff’s announces Saturday suspect in Thursday stabbing in custody

The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office reported Saturday that, following an extensive search, the suspect in a Thursday evening stabbing is in custody.

The agency announced the news just before 2:30 p.m. on August 31, a little over three hours after telling the public to avoid the area of Meijer on 24th Avenue in Fort Gratiot Township. The area was declared clear about a half hour before the sheriff’s office announced that they had found their suspect, 33-year-old Brent Durrant.

St. Clair County Central Dispatch received a report of a stabbing in the 4000 block of Parker Road just after 7:30 pm on August 29, 2024. Multiple police agencies, Fort Gratiot Fire Department, and Tri-Hospital EMS all responded to the scene. Upon arrival, deputies found a 56-year-old man with multiple stab wounds and a 55-year-old woman with cuts to her hands.

Durrant, a relative of the victims, fled the scene and was not initially found after an extensive search. A charge for assault with intent to murder was filed today with St. Clair County’s 72nd District Court.

Assault with intent to murder is a felony punishable by imprisonment for life or any number of years.
