The Saints made it out of pool play as the No. 1 seed last night after beating Western Little League 7-0.
With eight teams remaining in the State tournament, St. Clair will take on Portage Lake in the single-elimination championship segment today. The winner will advance to the final four tomorrow, and the state championship game will follow on Thursday.
Monday’s win came on a well-rounded effort for the Saints with 11 team hits, including a solo home run by Jackson Kemp, and a pair of doubles by Kemp and Jaxon Distelrath. Michael Frantz also added two hits and scored two runs.

It took a while for the lineup to spring to action. A couple of singles scored one run in the first inning, but the Saints stayed quiet until the top of the third. Distelrath and Frantz both singled to get on base, then Kemp and Graham Parlardg each hit a double to give St. Clair a 4-0 lead.
In the top of the fifth, Kemp scored the only run of the inning after hitting a home run to center field. A couple of hits and an error in the top of the sixth gave the Saints two more runs to put them ahead 7-0. Western had three quick ground outs to end the game, sealing the St. Clair victory.
After a big day at the plate on Sunday, Bryce Moran took the mound for the first three innings yesterday. He struck out four batters and gave up one hit. He reached his limit so he’ll be out for today, but St. Clair’s ace, Frantz, will be back in action for today’s game. Three other pitchers threw in the game’s final three innings to hold Western scoreless, proving the Saints’ talented depth.
Portage Lake holds a 2-1 and enters the championship segment as the No. 2 seed from Pool A. Today’s game is set to begin at 10 a.m. in Grosse Pointe.
