NBA suspends Rockets’ Amen Thompson, Heat’s Terry Rozier for altercation

NBA: Miami Heat at Houston Rockets

The NBA suspended Houston Rockets forward Amen Thompson two games without pay and Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier one game without pay for their role in a skirmish between the two teams on Sunday.

Rockets guard Jalen Green also was fined $35,000 and Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro $25,000 for taking part in the altercation, and Houston head coach Ime Udoka was assessed a $50,000 fine for verbal abuse of a game official and failing to leave the court in a timely manner.

The incident occurred with 35.7 seconds left on the clock of Miami’s 104-100 road victory.

The NBA said Thompson will sit out Houston’s home games Wednesday against the Dallas Mavericks and Friday versus the Boston Celtics. Rozier will serve his suspension Wednesday when the Heat play the New Orleans Pelicans at home.

The trouble started with Herro leaned into Thompson, who responded by taking hold of Herro’s jersey, then “throwing him to the floor in a forceful manner,” the NBA said.

Green and Rozier then got involved in the altercation. All four players were ejected from the game after receiving technical fouls.

Before the altercation, Rockets guard Fred Vanleet made “reckless contact with a game official” with 47.1 seconds left in the fourth quarter and was fined $35,000.
