Richmond graduate McKiernan ready to assist next generation

By Joseph Hayes

Jake McKiernan was an instant sensation during his time with the Richmond wrestling program.

Before graduating in 2014, McKiernan enjoyed plenty of success under current Richmond High School wrestling coach Brandon Day.

So much so, that it earned him a place among the college ranks, where he completed a career at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

But after wrapping up his own wrestling career, McKiernan is now looking forward to contributing to the growth of the next generation as a coach.

He has begun weekly weekend workouts where local wrestlers can begin developing and achieving new skills through his instruction.

He now hopes to achieve even more within the sport as a coach, as he works with upcoming athletes to further develop.

So listen along as I speak to McKiernan about his upcoming goals within the sport of wrestling.

And don’t forget to root on his alma-mater at Richmond High School, as they continue working toward a state championship today at the Division 3 state quarterfinals.
