FRASER-Needing just one more win to secure a spot in the Federal Prospects Hockey League playoffs for 2023-2024, the Port Huron Prowlers made their last trip to play the Motor City Rockers Sunday afternoon.

For the first game in this final series between the Prowlers and Motor City Rockers, Port Huron started out on top in the scoring.  After a handful of Slashing and other minor penalties, Evan Foley (13th of the season) found the loose puck in the crease in front of Trevor Babin of the Rockers, and shoved it past at 10:26 with help from Liam Freeborn and Austin Fetterly, on the powerplay for TJ Delaney’s Slashing minor.  Alex Johnson was immediately assessed an Unsportsmanlike Conduct minor for being too vociferous in celebrating.  Mitch Jones (13th of the season) doubled up the score at 15:48 with Johnson and Liam Freeborn getting assists.  Jones’ shooting from the wing, beat Babin who looked surprised with the aftermath of the shot.  Braden Deck picked up a Tripping minor, and a Roughing minor when he and Tristan Wells tangled at the end of the period. Wells was also assessed a Roughing penalty.  Motor City led with shots on goal 14-11.

Starting out the second period on the penalty kill, the Prowlers allowed only shots on goal but with the penalties expired at 2:10 Roman Gaudet cut the lead by one.  At 3:59 TJ Delaney tied things up for Fraser.  Port Huron put 7 shots on goal before Avery Smith found the net for the go ahead goal at 10:17.  1:16 later Delaney picked up his second goal when Tynan was beat cleanly.  Scott Coash gave the Prowlers a powerplay opportunity with a Holding minor but they were unable to capitalize.  Both teams put 11 shots on goal but the home team made three of them count.

TJ Delaney got his Hat Trick at 6:06 even strength to push the score to 5-2 in favor of Fraser.  There were five more penalties for each team in the remaining 14 minutes but the damage was done.

Port Huron will look to secure their playoff berth next weekend in a pair of games against the visiting Elmira River Sharks.  Fraser has secured 2nd seed in the Empire division but with 3rd and 4th seeds still up for grabs the Prowlers can expect some hard play as Elmira fights for one of those two spots.  The Prowlers can lock down 3rd place in the Continental division with one more win.
March 23rd is the annual Pucks and Pups so if you’d like to bring your K9 friend to the game, contact the team through their website www.phprowlers.com for more details and directions for bringing your furry friend.  Game time is 7:05
