Are you ready for some football?

Thursday night marks the beginning of a new football season in the Blue Water Area and with it comes another big game for the Port Huron High and Port Huron Northern football teams.

When the schools meet on Oct. 11, it will be the seventh consecutive year that the Port Huron Schools Endowment Fund will be a big part of the game, hosting it as a fundraiser.

It is one of two fundraisers hosted by the fund each year, the other being the K’s for Kids fun run, which is hosted in June.

This year’s football game will feature a pre-game tribute to current and former coaches in Port Huron Schools, including Port Huron Central High School.
Advisory Chairperson Dr. Randa Jundi-Samman will lead the event for the final time this year.

“The annual principal of the fund stays invested, while the interest supports S.T.E.A.M. related classroom grants and college access initiatives for Port Huron teachers and students,” explained Dr. Jundi-Samman in a press release.

The PHS Endowment Fund has granted over $125,000 in the past seven years. A combination of sponsorships and ticket sales for a catered end zone tailgate reception contribute to the fundraiser. The Endowment Fund currently has just over $315,000, with an eventual goal of $1 million, which is invested through the Community Foundation of St. Clair County.

Sponsorships and tickets can be purchased at the www.phasd.us website, the Port Huron Schools Administrative Building (2720 Riverside Dr.) main entrance front desk, directly from Dr. Jundi-Samman bsamman@aol.com or (810) 434-6022 and Sue Schmid from the St. Clair County Community Foundation (810) 984-4761. The deadline for sponsorships is October 4, 2019.
