Port Huron Big Reds: Trip to Germany 1972 with Eric Payton and Kathleen Knowles

Kathleen Knowles and Eric Payton walk back down memory lane to discuss Mr. Payton’s life, and his career as a band director at Port Huron High.

In 1972, the Big Red Marching Machine, under the direction of Mr. Payton, were selected to go to Germany to perform at several Olympic events. It would go on to be a trip that none of them would soon forget. Kathleen & Eric recount some of their favorite stories as well as give us an insight into all the things that went on behind to scenes to even make the trip possible in the first place.

Kathleen Knowles is a life-long resident of Port Huron and a 1973 graduate of Port Huron High School. After attending St. Clair County Community College, she has worked for credit unions all of her life as well as a professional dog show handler, known for handling Pekingese. Kathleen has been writing fiction for years as a hobby, having posted many stories online.
