Port Huron Area Schools will weigh name changes

The Port Huron Area School District is weighing all of the changes taking place in the world around us.

For that reason, the Port Huron Area School District sent out a release on Friday saying it would weigh possible changes to names within its system once school returned to session.

In the release sent out Friday, the district said:

“Port Huron Schools is aware of the petition to change the Port Huron High School Mascot. The district welcomes the opportunity to pull together a diverse stakeholder group and review our mascots across the district. We value both the traditions of our district and the need to engage in discussions around this topic.

‚ÄúOur district‚Äôs current focus is the safe return to school for our staff and students for the 2020-21 school year. After schools open we will engage our board of education and community to study this issue. Thank you for supporting our district and its efforts in these unprecedented times.‚ÄĚ
