People to Know – Katherine Bell Shaw and Marilyn Moncrief

People to Know is a series we’ve started that will feature just that… People to Know! There are so many people doing interesting things in their lives through various means; some on a small, more personal level, some making an impact in their community and others on a larger scale.

Regardless of their reach, we think they’re interesting and people you should know.

In the first episode, we learn about the late Katherine Bell Shaw, through her daughter, Marilyn Moncrief.

Shaw was a trailblazer, as one of the first two Black nurses in Port Huron. After retiring from nursing, she relocated to Florida, where she received a degree and started a new career with NASA at the age of 55.

Tune in to this interview as Marilyn talks about some of the barriers her mother broke in her lifetime. She also shares some gems of wisdom that Shaw instilled in her that are still relevant today.

Feel free to email me at to suggest someone you would like to see featured on an upcoming episode of People to Know.

Thanks so much for watching!
