“That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;”
The verse above insinuates that Abraham was already blessed when it says, “…and in multiplying I will multiply…” God was already multiplying Abraham, but because he was willing to sacrifice all for God in giving his son as a sacrifice, God was willing to multiply the multiple blessings that He had already given to Abraham.
If every believer were honest with themselves, they are already blessed by God. We live in times when many believers are so focused on what they don’t have that they miss the blessings of what they do have. You have been blessed more than you realize. If you stopped and looked at what God has done for you, you would agree that you have already been blessed. Because you are reading this devotional, I know that God has given you eyes to see. He has also blessed you with a mind that can comprehend, legs that walk, hands that move, life to live to this point, a family that loves you, and a salvation that is eternal. Needless to say, you are very blessed; but wouldn’t it be better if God would multiply what He has already multiplied? Three things are needed for God to multiply the multiplied.

First, God needs total sacrifice. God never blesses someone who is stingy with Him and is not willing to sacrifice all for Him. Too many people want to hold onto their friends, fun, fellowship, family, and possessions, but God wants you to be willing to sacrifice all for Him. God will only bless your life to the degree of your sacrifice. When you are willing to give up that which is most precious to you for God is when He gets ready to multiply what He has already multiplied.
Second, God needs obedience. God was willing to multiply Abraham’s multiplied blessings because He obeyed His voice. Sacrifice is important to God, but obedience is more important. 1 Samuel 15:22 says, “Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice…” God certainly loves that you are willing to sacrifice all for Him, but He wants to see to what degree you will obey Him. To sacrifice all for God but to disobey what He tells you to do is a total waste of the sacrifice. God will bless your sacrifice if you are willing to obey ALL of His Word.
Third, God needs faith. Sacrifice and obedience will bring you blessings, but faith is what multiplies those blessings. Faith reveals the degree that you trust God. If you have little faith, you trust God a little, but if you have great faith, you have great trust in God. My friend, faith is what will make you to be willing to sacrifice all that you have, and obey God in everything He tells you to do. Your degree of faith will determine your degree of sacrifice for God and the degree to which you are willing to obey Him.
Let me remind you that it took faith to get the blessings you have already obtained, but if you want God to multiply what He has already given, you are going to have to continue to live by faith. Don’t become content with the blessings you already have because those blessings will become commonplace if you don’t continue to live by faith. Do you want God to multiply His multiple blessings in your life? If you do, you are going to have to continue to step out by faith because it is faith the shows how much you trust God.
