Only porch damaged after last week’s fire in Paris Township

By Arica Frisbey of Sanilac Broadcasting

Last Monday, October 3, the Sherman Township Fire Department responded to an afternoon house fire in Paris Township.

The fire is theorized to have started after an ember from a burn barrel must have been picked up by the wind to land between the Atwater Road house and its porch where the blaze began.

Despite Huron County Dispatch reporting that “flames were coming from the building,” quick responses from the Sherman Township Fire Department and assistance by the Bingham Township Fire Department kept the damage only to the home’s porch.

Two residents were home at the time of the fire and were able to leave the home safely and without injury.

Assisting at the scene were the Michigan State Police and Central Huron Ambulance.
