STEVENS POINT – Stevens Point and Portage County voters will find a mix of incumbents and new faces on their ballots for the spring election.
Candidates had until 5 p.m. Jan. 6 to file their nomination papers for Stevens Point Common Council, Portage County Board and Stevens Point School Board.
Nomination papers can be challenged for things like issues with signatures or addresses for three days following the nomination paper filing deadline. A primary will be held Feb. 17 for seats with more than two qualified candidates, and the spring general election between the top two candidates will be held April 7.

Stevens Point Common Council
Stevens Point alderpersons serve two-year terms with about half the seats up for election each year. In 2026, the even-numbered districts, 2 through 10, will be on the ballot. Lara Broderick (District 4), Dale Steinmetz (District 6) and Dustin Buse (District 10) filed declarations of noncandidacy in this race. A primary will be held Feb. 17 for the District 10 seat.

Portage County executive serves a four-year term. Current executive John Pavelski filed a declaration of noncandidacy and is not seeking reelection. Pavelski narrowly defeated candidate Eric Olson for the seat in 2022.

Portage County Board
All 25 Portage County Board seats are up for election this spring. Supervisors serve two-year terms. Vinnie Miresse (District 1), Chris Doubek (District 2), David Medin (District 4), Julie Morrow (District 5), Shaun V. Przybylski (District 6), Joan Honl (District 8), Andrew Rockman (District 9), Don Jankowski (District 13), James Yetter (District 20) and Ray Reser (District 25) filed declarations of noncandidacy in this race. A primary will be held Feb. 17 for the District 25 race.

Stevens Point School Board
Each year, three members of the nine-member board are elected to three-year terms. An additional seat, currently filled by Elizabeth Potter-Nelson, who was appointed by the board in September, will be up for election for a one-year term following the early resignation of an elected member in August.
Candidates for School Board: Miguel Campos, Jeff Ebel, Ted Kowalski (i), Gee Pope (i), Elizabeth Potter-Nelson (i), Chris Scott and Alex Sommers (i).
