West Allis restaurant and wine bar closes after 15 months

Caulfield’s, a wine bar and restaurant in the heart of West Allis, is closing its doors.

“After a great deal of thought, we’ve decided to close Caulfield’s,” owner Casey Rataczak wrote in a March 28 Facebook post.

“I want to thank everyone that came in and enjoyed the food and drink the last 15 months. It was a pleasure meeting all of you,” he said.

But there are hints Rataczak is planning something new.

“We’re going to take a break, put our thinking caps on, and bring you something fun and unique. Until next fall…” Rataczak signed off.

Rataczak opened Milwaukee craft beer bar and restaurant Camino in Walker’s Point in 2015, beloved for its $5 Monday burger special.

A second Camino location opened in 2020 along West Greenfield Avenue, two blocks away from Caulfield’s. Gift cards for Caulfield’s are redeemable at either Camino location.

Caulfield’s opened on New Year’s Eve in 2024, replacing longtime neighborhood bar and grill Benno’s, which closed in 2022. The restaurant was recently featured in a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel roundup of gluten-free fish fries.
