Wendy’s closure comes after nearby Perkins closed

Wendy’s closure comes after Perkins American Food Co. closed its doors at 4525 Calumet Ave. Jan. 25.

The next closest Wendy’s restaurants are in Sheboygan (3645 S. Taylor Drive) and Ashwaubenon/Green Bay (901 Hansen Road).

The Manitowoc Wendy’s had been in service more than 30 years.

Wendy’s declining sales prompted nationwide review of locations

According to a Feb. 17 USA TODAY article, Wendy’s planned to close about 5% to 6% of its restaurants nationwide in the first half of 2026, amounting to roughly 300 to 360 locations, as part of an ongoing downsizing strategy.

Interim CEO Ken Cook said during earnings calls that the company had already closed 28 restaurants in late 2025 and was evaluating locations on a store-by-store basis. Cook said some restaurants hurt franchisee financial performance and Wendy’s aimed to either improve struggling locations through upgrades or transfers to new operators, or close them entirely.

Wendy’s reported declining sales in 2025, including an 11.3% drop in same-store sales and an 8.3% decline in global systemwide sales in the fourth quarter, USA TODAY reported.
