Gov. Tony Evers appointed attorney Diane Meulemans to be a Waupaca County Circuit Court judge after Judge Raymond Huber died in December, according to a Feb. 5 news release.
Huber, who had served as a judge in Waupaca County for 25 years, died Dec. 5 at age 68 from injuries he sustained in a fall, according to an obituary.
Evers announced Feb. 5 that Meulemans will fill the vacancy left by Huber’s death.
Meulemans has served as Waupaca County Corporation Counsel since 2014, providing legal representation for the county’s elected officials and departments, offering legal guidance to the county’s board of supervisors and serving as the child support agency administrator, according to the release. Prior to that, she served as deputy corporation counsel in Marathon County and corporation counsel in Green Lake County.
Meulemans lives in northwestern Waupaca County and and earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, her master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School, the release said.
“I am humbled and honored to accept this appointment by Gov. Evers, and I am dedicated to continuing the judicial legacy of the late Honorable Raymond S. Huber,” Meulemans said in the release. “As an attorney in the Office of Corporation Counsel for over twenty years – almost twelve of those in Waupaca County – I have demonstrated my commitment to public service and to protecting the rights of those who are vulnerable and in crisis in our community. As a judge, I will serve with compassion, integrity, impartiality, and a steadfast commitment to justice for all.”
Meulemans’ term will end July 31, 2027.
