These Titans stand on top of the NCAA Division III volleyball world.
The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh women’s volleyball team won its first national championship, defeating the University of La Verne on Saturday, Dec. 6 in Bloomington, Illinois.
The Titans (34-3) swept the match, 25-17, 25-22, 25-21, just like they swept the other five matches they played in the national tournament.
It’s the first Division III national championship for any sport at Oshkosh since men’s basketball won in 2019.
“I don’t have words to describe how amazing this group of humans is to make this possible from a match perspective,” coach Jon Ellmann said. “We talked in the locker room about creating a space for ourselves and how we wanted to operate moving from Point 1 all the way through the end of the match, regardless of outcome. And I was just really proud of our ability to just do what we do they way that we do it, from the first point all the way until the confetti flew.”
Titans junior pin hitter Samantha Perlberg from Chippewa Falls was named the most outstanding player of the championship. She and three teammates were named to the all-tournament team: senior setter Izzy Coon from Fond du Lac, junior middle blocker Lauren Grier from Fond du Lac and freshman defensive specialist/libero Callie Panasuk from Oak Creek.
“This group is so incredible,” said Coon, one of five Titans seniors. “There’s no group that I’d rather be with and go out with.”
