What the Green Bay Packers accomplished during Sunday’s win at Lambeau Field that hasn’t been done since the 1980s. With the 27-13 victory over the Detroit Lions in the 2025 home opener, the Packers extended their winning streak in home openers to 13 games, tying the NFL record first set by the Miami Dolphins between 1976 and 1988.
The Packers have won every home opener at Lambeau Field dating back to 2013. The last home opening loss? A 30-22 loss to the San Francisco 49ers to open the 2012 season. A chance to set the new NFL record will arrive in 2026.
Along the way, the Packers needed come-from-behind wins over the Jets (2014), Bears (2018) and Saints (2023) to keep the streak alive.
The Packers won six of the games under Mike McCarthy and now seven under Matt LaFleur. The team’s average margin of victory was a little over 10 points, although seven of the games were one-score wins.
Sunday’s win over the Lions — who won 15 games last season and are the defending NFC North champs — ranks among the best home opener wins during the streak. In 2015, the Packers vanquished the defending NFC champion Seattle Seahawks roughly eight months after the disaster in the NFC Championship Game. In 2018, Aaron Rodgers and the Packers came back from 20-0 down to beat the Bears, who finished 12-4. in 2023, Jordan Love led the Packers back from 17-0 down in the second half to win. In 2024, the Packers took down the Colts with backup quarterback Malik Willis under center.
Sunday’s win was the first Week 1 victory at Lambeau Field since 2018.
Packers 13-game home opener win streak
The 1989 Dolphins held a 24-13 lead in the fourth quarter of their home opener but ended up losing 27-24 when Jim Kelly scored the go-ahead touchdown late in the fourth quarter. The Packers will hope to avoid a similar fate when chasing No. 14 in 2026.
