Packers re-sign RB Chris Brooks to two-year deal

The Green Bay Packers and restricted free agent running back Chris Brooks have agreed to a two-year contract worth $4.85 million, according to One West Sports Group, who represents Brooks.

The two-year deal will tie Brooks to the Packers through the 2027 season. It’s possible he’ll be elevated into a bigger role in 2026 considering Emanuel Wilson was not tendered as a restricted free agent and has an uncertain future with the Packers. Including Josh Jacobs and now Brooks, the only other running backs under contract for 2026 are MarShawn Lloyd, who has appeared in one game in two seasons, and Pierre Strong Jr. and Damien Martinez, who were on the practice squad in 2025.

The one-year restricted tender for Brooks would have cost $3.52 million for the 2026 season.

Brooks has played 32 games with the Packers over the last two seasons, producing 449 total yards and a touchdown over 89 total touches. He became a trusted third-down style running back for Matt LaFleur’s offense and a core special teamer, appearing on 230 snaps for the third phase in 2025.

Per PFF, Brooks tallied nine solo tackles and four assisted tackles while covering kickoffs and punts last season, and he finished 2025 ranked as the team’s third-highest graded special teams player.

The Packers originally signed Brooks to the practice squad on Sept. 4, 2024. He was elevated to the 53-man roster two weeks later. Brooks began his NFL career as an undrafted free agent with the Miami Dolphins, playing in nine games in 2023.

Brooks was one of eight restricted free agents entering the offseason for the Packers. Brooks re-signed, while Wilson and Zayne Anderson will reportedly not receive tenders.
