The first set of Game 2s in Round 2 over the next two days are on the NBA playoff schedule for Wednesday, May 6.
The New York Knicks vs. Philadelphia 76ers and San Antonio Spurs vs. Minnesota Timberwolves are part of an ESPN doubleheader.
The Eastern Conference opens the night, with the Knicks looking to continue their historic run through the playoffs.
New York followed its dominating 51-point win over the Atlanta Hawks in the Game 6 first-round clincher with its largest playoff home victory in franchise history, beating the 76ers in Game 1 by 39 points.
Over the last three games, starting with Game 5 in their last series and continuing with the Game 1 beatdown in the Eastern Conference semifinals, the Knicks are winning games by nearly 40 points. The Knicks, who are No. 1 in scoring offense and No. 2 in scoring defense in the postseason, are the first team in NBA history to win three straight playoff games by at least 25 points.
How will the 76ers respond? If their last series is any indication, observers shouldn’t count them out. They were coming off an exhausting seven-game series against the Boston Celtics, one in which they fought back from a 3-1 deficit. Like that series, they were blown out in the series opener. They responded to win Game 2 on the road. And like they were early in that series, the 76ers will be without Joel Embiid in Game 2.
In the Western Conference, the Timberwolves are heavy underdogs against the Spurs in Game 2, something they’re becoming very comfortable with. But all Chris Finch’s team is overcome the odds. The shorthanded Timberwolves were the underdog in all six games against the Denver Nuggets in the first round and they were unfazed, winning that series, 4-2.
Minnesota entered hostile territory in Game 1 at San Antonio, but that didn’t bother a team that has been in the Western Conference Finals in each of the last two years. Boosted by the return of Anthony Edwards from injury, the Timberwolves got a 104-102 victory behind a 35-point fourth quarter as they took control. Can they now take control of the series or will Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs even up the series?

Is Joel Embiid playing tonight for the 76ers? Joel Embiid injury update
Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid is out for Game 2 of the Eastern Conference semifinals series due to injuries.
Soreness in the two-time MVP’s ankle and hip will keep him sidelined, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
He did not participate in the 76ers’ morning shootaround, Charania reported.
Embiid’s 14 points (on 3-of-11 shooting) in the Game 1 blowout loss were his lowest scoring output of the playoffs. He missed the team’s first three games of the first-round series against the Celtics after surgery to remove his appendix earlier in April.
Embiid’s effect on the 76ers has been immense this postseason. In the four games against the Celtics, the 76ers went 3-1, including three consecutive victories to turn a 3-1 deficit into a 4-3 series win.
He had a game-high 34 points and 12 rebounds in the 76ers’ Game 7 clincher. Embiid averaged 28.0 points per game, 9.0 rebounds and 7.0 assists in 36.5 minutes.
