Milwaukee County Parks will be closed due to cold temperatures

Due to dangerously cold temperatures and wind chills in the forecast, all outdoor Milwaukee County parks programming activities will be closed on Friday, Jan. 23, and Saturday, Jan. 24.

This includes the ice skating rink and rental counter at Red Arrow Park in downtown Milwaukee, as well as rentals and concessions at Whitnall warming house at the sledding hill, 6751 S. 92nd St.

While all outdoor activities are cancelled, indoor facilities across the Milwaukee County Parks system will remain open this weekend and operate under normal business hours unless otherwise noted.

The National Weather Service issued an extreme cold watch across Wisconsin. Windchills between 30 and 40 below zero are expected beginning the night of Thursday, Jan. 22, into the morning of Friday, Jan. 23. The agency warns exposed skin is at risk of frostbite in as little as 10 minutes under these conditions.

Most Milwaukee area school districts have called off school for Friday, Jan 23. For a list of school closures click here.
