Marquette guard Sean Jones will transfer to Toledo

Marquette men’s basketball guard Sean Jones is going back home.

Toledo announced on April 15 that the 5-foot-10 Ohio native would join the program after Jones entered the transfer portal in March.

Jones has one season of eligibility remaining, but there is a possibility he could apply for a medical hardship waiver for another year. He was beset by injuries over his four seasons at MU. The biggest blow was a devastating knee injury that kept him out of a MU uniform for 21 months as he redshirted the 2024-25 season for rehab.

He only played in eight games last season after shoulder and toe maladies.

Jones was in MU’s 2022 recruiting class, the first set of prospects fully recruited at the school by head coach Shaka Smart. Jones was a three-time all-state player at Gahanna Lincoln High School outside of Columbus, Ohio.

Toledo has a Wisconsin connection in head coach Tod Kowalczyk, a DePere native who was a MU assistant and UW-Green Bay head coach. Kowalczyk helped steer the development of young Bucks guard Ryan Rollins.
