Lakeshore College receives funding for CDL workforce training

CLEVELAND – Lakeshore College has received a $24,994 state grant to grow commercial driver’s license (CDL) training and strengthen the local workforce in Manitowoc County.

The funding, awarded through Wisconsin’s Commercial Driver Training Grant program, will help 12 individuals earn Class A or B CDLs at half the usual cost. The goal: open doors to high-demand transportation careers.

The award is part of a $250,000 statewide investment announced by Gov. Tony Evers and the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development. Nine organizations across eight counties received funding to address Wisconsin’s growing driver shortage.

Lakeshore delivers the training through its Workforce Solutions program. Students complete online, self-paced CDL theory along with customized behind-the-wheel instruction that meets federal Entry-Level Driver Training requirements.

Some participants can finish the program in as little as six weeks.

Hundreds of CDL-required jobs are currently open across Wisconsin, highlighting the need for expanded training opportunities.
