Lakeshore again named Military Friendly School for 2026-27

CLEVELAND – Lakeshore College has been named a 2026-2027 Military Friendly School, earning Silver-level recognition and a Military Friendly Spouse School designation.

The honor marks the 17th consecutive year Lakeshore has received the designation from Viqtory, a national organization that connects the military community with education, entrepreneurship and civilian employment opportunities.

How Military Friendly Schools are selected

Schools are evaluated using public data and responses to a proprietary survey. More than 3,200 organizations participated in the Military Friendly survey, according to the college.

Criteria and weightings are set by Military Friendly in consultation with its Advisory Council. Final ratings combine survey scores and public data, measuring recruitment, retention, academic progress, graduation rates, career placement and support services for veterans, transitioning service members and military spouses.

Veteran and military family support in Manitowoc County

Lakeshore said it works with County Veterans Services, the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to connect veterans, spouses and dependents with resources that support college success.

“This recognition reflects our continued dedication to supporting veterans and their families,” Lakeshore President Dr. Paul Carlsen said, citing the college’s focus on helping military students transition to campus life and the civilian workforce.

Wisconsin GI Bill, tuition grants and spouse scholarships

Eligible students may access tuition and material-fee waivers, housing allowances and stipends through the Wisconsin GI Bill.

Lakeshore also processes Retraining Grant applications for eligible veteran dislocated workers, National Guard Tuition Grants and VetEd reimbursement grants, and participates in the My Career Advancement Account scholarship program for qualifying military spouses.
