A legendary stage mother, a homicidal fortune seeker and a handful of big-haired ’80s rockers will all be part of Skylight Music Theatre’s 2026-’27 season, announced during a promotional event on March 16.
Here’s a summary of Skylight’s plans for 2026-’27:
‘Gypsy’
Artistic Director Michael Unger will helm Skylight’s production of this classic 1959 musical about the ultimate stage mother determined to make one of her two daughters into a star. Sept. 25-Oct. 18.
‘Big’
Skylight will fill its holiday slot with the musical adaptation of the 1987 film about a kid whose wish transforms him into the body of an adult and a whole new set of challenges. Unger directs. Nov. 13-Dec. 27.
‘Dear Evan Hansen’
A troubled teen’s lie lands him in the middle of another family’s crisis in this deeply emotional musical, which won Tonys for best musical, best book and best original score. It’s also one of the first musicals to successfully tackle the amplifying impact of social media. Elyse Edelman directs. Jan. 22-Feb. 7, 2027.
‘A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder’
This Tony winner follows the adventures of a chap determined to inherit an earldom by removing all the people in line ahead of him. Unger directs. March 12-28, 2027.
‘Rock of Ages’
Stephanie Staszak will direct and choreograph this jukebox musical packed with familiar songs from Twisted Sister, Bon Jovi, Pat Benatar, Journey and other ’80s rockers. April 16-May 2, 2027.
