Green Bay Packers trade deadline rumors, recap, transactions around the NFL

The last two years, the Green Bay Packers made moves at the NFL trade deadline.

Both trades involved shipping out veteran defensive players in return for future draft picks. In 2025, might general manager Brian Gutekunst be in the business of acquiring more talent to bolster an already very talented roster for the rest of a season with the goal of a Super Bowl?

The Packers remain atop the NFC and are riding a three-game winning streak into their home game against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, Nov. 2. Two days later comes the trade deadline.

The Packers, of course, already made the biggest trade of the year before the NFL season even began when they acquired defensive end Micah Parsons from the Dallas Cowboys in late August.

But Nov. 4 is the last chance for the Packers to add players via a trade. And Packers fans, for example, are looking for the team to add cornerback help in the PackersNews’ survey this week.

Here’s everything to know about the NFL trade deadline. We’ll update this file the rest of this week:

When is the NFL trade deadline?

The 2025 NFL trade deadline is 3 p.m. (Central time) Tuesday, Nov. 4.

Lucas Havrisik update: Packers have two kickers on roster

The Packers have two kickers on their 53-man roster, something that is a bit unconventional. They have Brandon McManus and Lucas Havrisik.

McManus missed two games with a quad injury but returned against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Oct. 26. Havrisik, whom the Packers signed off the street, filled in tremendously for those two games, going a perfect 10 for 10 on kicks, including a franchise-record 61-yard field goal. He remained on the roster upon McManus’ return but was inactive for last Sunday’s game against the Steelers. Teams can only suit up 48 of their 53 players on the active roster for game days.

With the trade deadline nearing, will they continue to keep both McManus and Havrisik on the roster? The Packers signed the 34-year-old McManus to a three-year contract extension in the offseason after he provided stability to the position in 2024. Despite missing two field goals last week (one short from 57 yards and a 44-yarder wide left), McManus remains the No. 1 kicker. So, will the Packers trade the 26-year-old Havrisik? Or will they keep him around as insurance if McManus still isn’t 100% healthy?

“I’ll just let Gutey (general manager Brian Gutekunst) handle that,” LaFleur said during his press conference on Oct. 30 when asked what they plan to do with Havrisik.

McManus (9 of 13 on field goals and 14 of 15 on extra points in five games in 2025) kicked during practice on Oct. 29 and “looked good,” LaFleur said.

Is McManus still feeling any lingering effects from the injury?

“I didn’t ask him how he felt,” LaFleur said. “I don’t talk to kickers, so I assume he felt OK.”

Micah Parsons is NFC Defensive Player of the Month

There were immense expectations upon Micah Parsons when he joined the Packers via a trade days before the start of the season.

And he hasn’t disappointed.

He was rewarded by being named NFC’s defensive player of the month in October. It’s the second time in his career he’s won the award.

In three games in October, all wins over the Cincinnati Bengals, Arizona Cardinals and Pittsburgh Steelers, Parsons had four sacks, six quarterback hits and five tackles for loss.

He had his first three-sack game of his career against the Cardinals in the Week 7 win. Parsons also had five tackles, four of which were for a loss to tie a career high. He won NFC Defensive Player of the Week following that game.

Parsons sacked Aaron Rodgers once in the Packers’ victory over the Steelers last week.

Packers trade rumors: Sebastian Joseph-Day, Tennessee Titans defensive tackle

Will the Packers add, subtract or stand pat? What is their position of need and who could be targeted?

ESPN.com answered that question for Green Bay and every NFL team in a trade deadline story.

Reporter Jeremey Fowler says “standing pat wouldn’t surprise me,” noting that the Packers don’t often trade players at the deadline.

He also correctly mentioned that they already made “their splash move” with the Parsons trade. In getting Parsons, they parted ways with first-round picks in 2026 and 2027. For a team that covets trade picks, how can the Packers get more picks back? Through trades.

For many Packers fans, cornerback is a position of need based on the play on the field of late.

But defensive tackle is another one, according to NFL analyst Aaron Schatz. The Packers were without run stuffer Devonte Wyatt for two games this month due to a knee injury and lost their top interior defensive lineman when Kenny Clark was included in the Parsons trade. Wyatt returned for the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Oct. 26 but defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley could use some depth at the position.

Who might be available? ESPN notes Titans defensive tackle Sebastian Joseph-Day, who is in his eighth NFL season. Joseph-Day is playing on a one-year contract in Tennessee.

Lions sign Aidan Hutchinson to contract extension

Trades aren’t the only moves happening this week.

The Detroit Lions locked up their best defensive player this week to a massive deal.

The Lions signed homegrown defensive end Aidan Hutchinson to a four-year, $180 million contract extension that includes $141 guaranteed, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Hutchinson becomes the second-highest paid pass rusher in the NFL, behind only Packers defensive end Micah Parsons, who is making $46.5 million per season. Pewaukee High School graduate and former Wisconsin star TJ Watt is third with $41 million after signing his new deal this summer with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

After suffering a gruesome season-ending leg injury in Week 6 of the 2024 season, the former second overall pick hasn’t missed a beat in his return in 2025. Hutchinson has six sacks and four forced fumbles in seven games for the Lions (5-2).

The Packers will take on Hutchinson and the Lions for a second time this season in Week 13 of the NFL season on Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 27, at Ford Field.

Jets and Eagles make a trade

The reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, a team right behind the Packers in the NFC standings, added to their secondary on Oct. 30.

The Eagles are acquiring cornerback Michael Carter and a 2027 seventh-round pick from the New York Jets, who are receiving wide receiver John Metchie and a 2027 sixth-roudn pick.

The 26-year-old Carter is a 2021 fifth-round pick out of Duke who has spent his whole career with the New York Jets. But Carter was ready to leave the 1-7 Jets. He deleted the $5 million guaranteed for injury in his 2026 contract year, the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported.

Metchie, 22, had just four catches for 18 yards in 2025 in his first season with the Eagles, who acquired him in a trade during training camp with the Houston Texans. The former second-round pick from Alabama spent the first two years of his career in Houston.
