Mike McCarthy is looking to get back into coaching.
After a year away from the NFL, the former Green Bay Packers’ head coach is showing interest in two jobs. And one would be a homecoming for McCarthy.

McCarthy is set to speak with the Pittsburgh Steelers about their head coaching vacancy this week, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, in addition to having interviews with the Tennessee Titans.
Could Mike McCarthy get the Steelers job?
McCarthy has coached in the NFL for 18 years, 13 with the Packers and five with the Dallas Cowboys – two of the most storied franchises. Could he add a third?
It makes sense that McCarthy, 62, is interested in the Steelers job. He’s a Pittsburgh native and whose parents still lives in the area. The McCarthys are well-known in Pittsburgh. McCarthy’s dad was a firefighter for the Pittsburgh Fire Bureau, an officer for the Pittsburgh Police Department and also owned a bar called Joe McCarthy’s Bar.
The Steelers job is open for the first time since 2007 after longtime head coach Mike Tomlin stepped down last week.
Tomlin never had a losing season in 19 years but hadn’t won a playoff game since 2016. The Steelers’ last Super Bowl appearance came in the 2010 season. McCarthy, of course, was on the opposing side in that game when the Packers defeated the Steelers, 31-25, to win the franchise’s fourth Super Bowl. Aaron Rodgers, who led the Packers to the victory in that Super Bowl, is coming off his first year as the Steelers’ quarterback.
The 42-year-old is now a free agent. Rodgers could sign with another team or retire. Or could a reunion between McCarthy and Rodgers be in store in Pittsburgh?

Mike McCarthy interviews for Titans’ head coaching opening
McCarthy is also a contender for the Titans’ head coaching job.
The Titans announced Jan. 19 that McCarthy was one of eight candidates who received a second interview. McCarthy first spoke with the Titans about the job in December, Schefter reported.
The Titans fired Brian Callahan as head coach on Oct. 13 after a 1-5 start into his second season. Callahan finished 4-19 in 1½ seasons. Titans senior offensive assistant Mike McCoy finished the season as interim coach.
Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, a candidate for multiple head coaching jobs, also received a second interview with the Titans.
Whoever gets the job will be tasked with overseeing the development of last year’s No. 1 overall pick, quarterback Cam Ward. The Titans finished 3-14 in 2025 and have the fourth overall pick in this spring’s NFL draft.
McCarthy took a break from coaching after he and the Cowboys parted ways following the 2024 season, ending a five-year run in Dallas.
McCarthy, who moved back to Wisconsin after his exit in Dallas, hasn’t been completely out of sight during the 2025 season. He had a weekly spot on “The Pat McAfee Show” on ESPN where he talked all things NFL.
