Welcome back, Brandon Woodruff.
Milwaukee Brewers fans have really missed you for 652 days.
Back on the mound and starting for the first time since Sept, 23, 2023 due to a torn anterior capsule in his pitching shoulder, Woodruff threw 53 of his 70 pitches for strikes in a 3-1 victory over the Miami Marlins.
In an an almost flawless season debut where he did not walk a batter and seemed to be completely in the zone, Woodruff allowed only two hits and one run while striking out eight. In his first six innings of 2025, Woodruff looked like the same pitcher that averaged 10.3 strikeouts per nine frames before the injury
It was truly exceptional stuff after such a long layoff from the game.
“Honestly, all I really honed in on was ‘If I’ve got a good curveball today, I’m going to go with that. If I’ve got a good changeup today, I’ll go with that. If my fastball is good, I’m going to stick with that,’ Woodward told reporters after the game.
“I didn’t really know what was going to happen in terms of that, but pretty early on I knew the command was there and I just rolled with it.”
Here’s some social media reaction to Woodard’s splendid start:
