Fresh off a state championship in swimming, Gavin Lopez earned another honor from voters across the Coastal Bend.
Lopez was named this week’s Caller-Times Apple Dental Care High School Athlete of the Week after winning the boys 100-yard butterfly at the Class 4A UIL State Meet in 50.13 seconds.
Lopez received 24,266 votes, accounting for 82.49% of the total votes cast.
Port Aransas girls basketball player McKennah Bacon finished second with 3,329 votes, and Calallen softball player Audryna Almaraz was third with 684 votes.
Students can only be named Athlete of the Week one time per season, per sport, and athletes from one school cannot win more than three consecutive weeks.
Nominations are due by 5 p.m. Saturday and can be submitted through email at ctsports@caller.com or on X @CallerSports.
