Where to get El Paso’s best pizza, wings and nachos for Super Bowl 60

El Pasoans hosting Super Bowl 60 watching parties have an important task ahead of the big game day – making sure they have a good spread for their guests.

As they watch the Seattle Seahawks take on the New England Patriots on Sunday, Feb. 8, many fans will be nibbling on a chicken wing, putting more guac on their nacho chips and/or taking a bite out of a classic pepperoni pizza slice.

Before El Pasoans join the millions that will gather in front of their TVs, here are our recommendations for where to get the best Super Bowl game day grub.

Best Nachos in El Paso

The Tap

One of El Paso’s iconic bars, The Tap, has been serving up cold drinks and great nachos for many years. The nachos at the bar, at 408 E. San Antonio Ave., are not only delicious, but they are also a work of art with a well-balanced mix of refried beans, diced onions, tomatoes and jalapeños slices, melted white cheese and either chicken or beef over a bed of crispy tortilla chips. Chicken nachos are $13.99. You can add avocado for an additional price.

Track One

Track One is an institution in El Paso with its restaurant located inside three railroad cars at 1330 Buffalo Soldier Road on the East Central part of El Paso.

The restaurant is known for wings and we’ll get to that. But the nachos menu is also formidable. Try the Killer Nachos with chicken, a shareable appetizer with layers of refried beans, shredded tender chicken breast, melted white cheddar cheese and flavorful pico de gallo. $13.8 including chicken.

The restaurant also has different varieties, Beef nachos with jalapeno slices, and the Philly Nachos with a hefty portion of thinly sliced steak.

Best Wings in El Paso

As a born and bred El Pasoan, I would be remiss to not start with Track One. Most wing lovers will attest that Track One is the place to get your fill of tasty, and meaty wings.

Fans of chicken drums and flats love to dig their hands into the double dip honey wings at Track One. One bite of the chicken with its sweet, and sticky thick glaze, and you’re hooked. If you would rather have some heat, pair them with the Buffalo-hot wings, with its rich and tangy spicy flavor.

My preference is to alternate between the sweet and the tangy spicy ones. Other popular flavors include lemon pepper, barbecue, and sweet fire.

Gearing up for the big day, Track One restaurant is expected to sell about 200 orders or more of chicken wings this week. Wing fans are encouraged to get their orders in by Saturday, Feb. 7. The restaurant will have a tent for easy ordering and its food truck to help stay on top of the cooking. To go orders: 915-771-9502.

Undisputed Craft House

A few miles away, Undisputed Craft House, at 1881 Saul Kleinfeld, has a great sauce menu that is out of the box and delicious. Think peach habanero or blueberry chipotle sauces.

Of course I had to try several and my favorite was the Watermelon Tajin. Each bite was a combination of sweetness from the watermelon and the spicy saltiness of the Tajin. Just a fun flavor profile in your mouth.

Another favorite is the Cherry Jalapeno which also combines sweetness with a kick of heat. Bone-in wings are 20 pieces for $27 plus tax with the choice of two sauces.

Best Pizza

Ardovino’s

It may be partly nostalgic, I spent a lot of my 20s eating the Four Seasons pizza with college friends at the Ardovino’s in Kern Place.

But I stopped recently at the one at 145 E. Sunset Road, and the feelings of delight came rushing back with the first bite of pizza. Never much of a plain pepperoni pizza gal, I’ve always enjoyed the more gourmet ingredients of the Four Seasons pizza: sun-dried tomatoes, artichokes and roasted red pepper, green chile and ricotta (my favorite) and spinach, pesto and feta.

The large Four Seasons is $28 plus tax. Make sure to order some of these for your bougier friends.

Plenty of locations around town: 206 Cincinnati Ave., 11100 Sean Haggerty Drive, 1879 N. Zaragoza Road, 145 E. Sunset Road, and 865 N. Resler Drive.

Pizza Hut

For me, Pizza Hut stands out among other national pizza chains. You have your crust options, from a thin crust pizza which allows you to get full without feeling stuffed or the traditional for a butterier crust around the edges.

While pepperoni may be the popular choice, my goto is the Supreme Pizza, which combines some vegetables (got to get them in some how), green peppers, mushrooms and onions with the meats – pepperoni, seasoned pork and beef.

Plus, you can always get a good family deal that doesn’t break the budget. The Family Dinner Box includes two medium 1 topping pizzas, 5 breadsticks and your choice of chicken wings or pasta. Cost is $25.99 plus tax.
