Following the results of the Week 6 college football slate, Texas A&M’s odds to win the national championship are on an upward trajectory.
The Aggies soundly defeated the Mississippi State Bulldogs at Kyle Field on Saturday night, which prompted a +1000 rise in BetMGM’s odds in the race for the national title. Texas A&M’s second consecutive Southeastern Conference victory has sparked many conversations about the potential to run the table in the league and ascend into the discussion of top seeds in the playoffs. While there is still a long road ahead of the Aggies, the continuous improvement has led to impressive outings against teams like Notre Dame, Auburn and MSU.
Here is the full list of updated odds released on Monday by BetMGM, as Texas A&M enters Week 7 with a 5-0 (2-0 in SEC) overall record:
With the ninth-best odds to secure its first national championship since 1939, Texas A&M’s consistency will be key against teams like Texas and LSU, both of which are considered to have increased chances to find tremendous success moving forward. While both the Longhorns and Tigers have at least one loss in this year’s ventures, both programs have the talent to still make noise and carve their own respective paths to postseason play.
The Aggies have already accomplished great feats in the second campaign under head coach Mike Elko, but there is still much to be desired. That includes, first and foremost, reaching Atlanta, Georgia, and competing in the SEC Championship come December. Should Texas A&M continue to trend upward and earn its ticket to the program’s first appearance in the conference title game, this team will undoubtedly receive a bid into the College Football Playoff.
That opportunity will not happen if the program allows the Florida Gators to thrive at Kyle Field this weekend, however. It is important that Elko’s squad continues to take strides towards improving one week at a time, especially with how deeply competitive the SEC is in 2025.
