Want to keep cool in Corpus Christi? Here's when pools, new aquatic center will open

With the heat rising in the Coastal Bend, a new pool will soon be open on Corpus Christi’s Southside.

The Parks and Recreation Department will open the Bill Witt Aquatic Center, the first outdoor aquatic facility built in Corpus Christi in more than 50 years, on May 23. It will be open to the public from 1 to 7:30 p.m. that day.

The $12.2 million aquatic center will feature a 10-lane lap pool, a recreational pool with zero-depth entry, slides, water basketball, water spray features, pool deck seating areas and shade structures.

As part of Memorial Day weekend activities, all outdoor city pools will be open from May 24 through May 26. They will reopen for the summer season on June 2 and close Aug. 10.

Greenwood Pool is temporarily closed for maintenance and repair.

Due to the ongoing drought in Corpus Christi, the city’s splash pads will be open on Fridays through Sundays. Normally, the water places are open from Tuesday through Sunday.

The splash pads will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. from June 2 through Aug. 10 and will be open on the following holidays: Memorial Day (May 26), Juneteenth (June 19), Independence Day (July 4) and Labor Day (Sept. 1).

Here are the locations and schedules for the city’s pools and splash pads:
