The Hernandez family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Leyton Hernandez Memorial Scholarship Fund to honor his memory and impact on the Veterans Memorial community and athletic program.

Hernandez, 28, was in his fifth year teaching and coaching at Veterans Memorial, the district said in the release. CCISD’s crisis counseling team will be available for students and staff when schools reopen Monday.

Hernandez, the son of Corpus Christi ISD Superintendent Roland Hernandez and Cynthia Hernandez and the brother of Lauren Stinson, graduated from King High School and earned his bachelor’s degree from Texas State University in 2020.
