Week 6 of the high school football season delivered a lighter schedule for the Wichita Falls area with several teams enjoying an open week in preparation for the start of district play.
That doesn’t mean the area was short on standout performances, including a trio of players who accounted for at least seven TDs in blowout wins.
Here are five athletes who stood out among the 32 players who qualified for the Week 6 Honor Roll.
Brock Belcher, QB, Windthorst
Belcher threw for seven touchdowns for the second consecutive week, totaling 296 yards passing in Windthorst’s 76-6 victory against Munday. Belcher leads the area with 26 TD passes against just two interceptions.
Keegan Hayes, SB, Benjamin
Hayes was in peak form in a high-profile matchup against fourth-ranked Cherokee, leading No. 6 Benjamin to a 68-6 victory. Hayes rushed for 282 yards and seven TDs and passed for 126 and a score. He also had six tackles and an interception on defense.
Cole Keeney, SB, Perrin-Whitt
Keeney stole the show Friday in an 81-36 smackdown of Saint Jo, rushing for 324 yards and seven TDs while passing for 132 and two more scores.
Tyce Payne, RB/LB, Vernon
Payne emerged as Vernon’s lead back in its 49-13 victory against District 4-3A Division I foe Ponder, rushing for 142 yards and four TDs while catching a 28-yard TD pass. On defense, he had six tackles, including 4½ for loss.
Quarterback Ty Scott deserves mention with 108 yards rushing and a TD while passing for 134 and a score.
Shareginald Williams, WR/DB, Olney
Williams has burst onto the scene as a great coverage corner with terrific ball skills, recording three interceptions in Olney’s 33-0 shutout of Crosbyton. He’s got five interceptions in the past two weeks.
Not to be outdone, Olney quarterback Tucker Cortinez had the best performance of his career, throwing for 342 yards and four TDs. Before this performance, Cortinez had 446 yards and three TDs on the season.
