Bollards have been set up at the Michael J. Ellis seawall to restrict vehicle access due to natural beach erosion and public safety concerns.
The Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation Department limited vehicle access from the south end to mile marker 217.5.
Pedestrian access remains open.
The action was taken in accordance with local and state regulations regarding natural resources and conservation, which allows the city to restrict access to the area if the beach width is less than 150 feet from the mean high tide — the average height of all high tides over a period of 18.6 years — line to the base of the seawall.
The department will monitor the area in front of the seawall and seek opportunities to restore the beach to a minimum width of 200 feet.
The area will remain closed until the width is restored above 150 feet.
