Underrated Texas Recruiting signees: Davis, Brown, Walker lead the way

The early signing period is here and the Longhorns have already locked up 23 players, 22 of whom will be on campus in just a few weeks as early enrollees. There are plenty of stars in this class, but there are some hidden gems that I believe could be special contributors in their Longhorn career. From a remarkably rangy LB to a bruising RB, some of the top guys in this class might have a lower star-rating.

3-Star ATH Toray Davis

Toray Davis is a difference maker. Sitting as the 18th ATH in the country, Davis has the chance to be a contributor early. He’s listed as mainly a safety across recruiting sites, but it seems he could be on a DeMarivion Overshown track, moving to LB at some point in his career. Davis is strong in the run game, but is really special in coverage and has come up with a number of wow plays throughout his high school career.

3-Star WR Kohen Brown

If there is one word to describe the Steve Sarkisian offense, particularly on the outside, it’s speed. Kohen Brown has that in spades and the early talk is he could be the next version of Ryan Niblett for the Longhorns. Brown will have to work his way into what figures to be a competitive WR room, but I would expect him to factor into the return game quickly.

3-Star OL Kaden Scherer

The Texas OL class did not bring in the number of bodies they might’ve liked, but I think Scherer is a fantastic pickup. Standing at 6’5”, 275 right now, he has the chance to fill out to around 315 during his freshman year and then become a true factor moving forward. He has remarkable feet, a great motor and as long as the physical attributes can come along, this could be a long-term starter for the Longhorns.

3-Star TE Charlie Jilek

If you ask any coach or scout what’s the number one thing a TE needs, it would be elite blocking. Charlie Jilek has that. At 6’5”, 240, he still has remarkable athleticism both at TE and LB in high school, but he is relentless in run blocking. His length is very impressive and as he adds weight his freshman year, I expect there to be practice rumblings of Jilek flashing.

3-Star RB Jett Walker

The one thing the Longhorns haven’t really had under Steve Sarkisian is a true power back. Jett Walker fits the bill. Walker stands at 6 ‘2”, 210 right now, but with a college nutrition and weight lifting plan, he could add at least 10-15 pounds and become a bruiser. Walker also possesses elite contact balance and strong breakaway speed when needed. It’s unlikely Walker sees the field much in 2026, but in time, I believe this could be a massive player for the Longhorns down the road.
