Texas GOP, Democratic primary results in for state races

Election Day’s unofficial results are in for the March primaries, giving insight into who will be on the ballot in November. Here’s a look into the races for Texas governor, attorney general, comptroller, and commissioners for agriculture and railroad.

Texas Governor

This race for the Republican primary was the busiest on the ballot with 11 candidates:

By the end of the night, Abbott had a dominating 81.87%, with 1,667,532 votes.

The Democratic primary for the governor seat was also the busiest with nine candidates:

Hinojosa gained 1,200,112 votes for 59.23%.

Abbott and Hinojosa will face off in the November general election.

Texas Attorney General

The Republican primary had four candidates:

Middleton pulled the majority with 765,773 votes for 39.17%, but it wasn’t enough to stop a runoff. Roy took the second most with 619,858 votes for 31.71%.

The Democratic primary had Anthony “Tony” Box, Joe Jaworski and Nathan Johnson. This will also turn into a runoff, as Johnson received 919,180 votes for 47.97%, Jaworski had 26.83% and Box had 25.2%.

Comptroller of Public Accounts

The Republican primary had four candidates:

The Democratic primary had Sarah Eckhardt, Michael Lange and Savant Moore.

Huffines secured the nomination with 1,123,279 votes for 57.42%. Eckhardt secured the nomination with 1,221,776 votes for 64.7%. The two will reappear on the November general election.

Commissioner of Agriculture

The Republican primary had incumbent Sid Miller and Nate Sheets in a tight race. Sheets gained 52.55% of total votes, sending Sheets to the General Election in November.

The Democratic primary candidate, Clayton Tucker, ran unopposed. Tucker and Sheets will head to the November ballot.

Railroad Commissioner

The Republican primary had five candidates:

As the final votes are being counted by 9:53 a.m. Wednesday, it appears the race is between French with 577,735 votes for 31.67%, and Wright with 582,355 votes for 31.92%. This will likely become a runoff.

The Democratic primary candidate, Jon Rosenthal, ran unopposed. Rosenthal will head to the November ballot.

When are runoff elections for GOP, Democratic primaries?

Early voting will begin on May 18, with election day on May 26.

When is the General Election Day?

Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026. Early voting will begin Oct. 19.
