The College Football Playoff Selection Committee made its decisions official, as the Texas A&M Aggies received the No. 7 seed and will host a home playoff game at Kyle Field against the Miami Hurricanes in the first round.
One of the hottest topics in the college football landscape was the debate of Miami or Notre Dame earning a spot in the CFP, but the committee used head-to-head criteria to put the Hurricanes in the playoff. After losing the Lone Star Showdown in the final game of the 2025 regular season, the Aggies will host the playoff contest in Bryan-College Station, Texas. If head coach Mike Elko leads his team to the program’s first win in the CFP in school history, Texas A&M will then face the No. 2 seed Ohio State Buckeyes.
Two Group of Five programs, the Tulane Green Wave and James Madison Dukes, earned their spot at the No. 11 seed and No. 12 seed, respectively. Despite a loss in the SEC Championship, which marked its third loss in 2025, Alabama did not budge in the rankings and will face Oklahoma in a rematch in Norman. Those decisions from the CFP Selection Committee sent shockwaves across college football, while many continue to disagree with the guidelines for how they rank each team.
