Texas A&M is close to landing an OV with elite 2027 5-star Edge

Texas A&M’s 2027 recruiting class will continue to grow throughout the year, and after landing four-star offensive tackle Kaeden Scott, head coach Mike Elko and his staff are on track to land a handful of blue-chip prospects on both sides of the ball, and continue to make progress with the No. 1-ranked Edge who could take an official visit to College Station in the near future.

2027 five-star edge Zyron Forstall, who the Aggie coaching staff has compared to unanimous All-American senior edge Cashius Howell, who declared for the 2026 NFL Draft last month, has reportedly been in ongoing discussions with Mike Elko regarding a future official campus visit. After Forstall’s unofficial visit back in early October, Forstall praised the Aggies’ improvement this season, while noting Elko’s development track with young prospects.

“Really just the communication and how they showed interest and how consistent they’ve been reaching out and trying to get me out as much as possible.”

“Really I’d say going back to watching their defense play this year and them telling me a position I can play. They have a guy on the field showing this is what you’re going to do and we’re going to develop you.”

Forstall will finish out his high school playing career at the prestigious IMG Academy, one of the premier recruiting spots for every Power Four program, and while the Aggies will have plenty of competition for the elite pass rusher, Forstall’s recent interview with Rivals insider Greg Biggins revealed that Miami and Texas A&M are the two schools that currently stick out more than most.

Forstall continues to use Cashius Howell as the primary example of how well Elko develops pass rushers, including up-and-coming sophomore edge Marco Jones, who is on track for a breakout season in 2026.

“I had a great visit to A&M last summer and I love the coaching staff there,” Forstall said. “They were all so welcoming and I got a real family vibe and feel with everyone.

“They’re really driven on development. They took me in the office and showed me different things of how well I would fit. Cashius Howell is a great player and a great example how well they develop there.”

According to Rivals, Forstall is currently positioned as the 9th-ranked prospect in the 2027 class, the No. 1-ranked Edge, and the 2nd-ranked prospect in Florida.
