The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a shooting in Newcastle that left one man dead, according to a media release.
John Edward Rogers, 70, of Graham was being held Tuesday morning in Young County Jail on a total bond of $1.03 million for charges of murder and felon in possession of a firearm, online jail records show.
Sgt. Juan Gutierrez of the DPS said in a media release that Texas Rangers were called to help the Young County Sheriff’s Office investigate the incident that occurred shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday.
Gutierrez said two men “living at the same address but in different residences” had a dispute.
“During the dispute, one of the males shot the other,” the release said.
The victim, Justin Duane Garland, 25, of Graham, died in route to a hospital, according to the release.
Upon arrival, law enforcement located Rogers with a firearm in his possession, the media release said. He was arrested.
