Abilene’s La Pops, the iconic yellow building on Arnold Blvd., is planned to open a new location, putting them back in the heart of the city, and just around the corner from an old location.
“We’re happy to be back in the middle of the city because we’re kind of on the outskirts of Abilene,” said La Pops owner Yolanda Salazar. “A lot of people still don’t know that we’re open or that we even exist, just because of where we’re located. So it’s kind of exciting that we’re actually in the middle of the city.”
The new location is 1441 Barrow Street, where the old Papa Murphy’s was, and will feature a drive-through window, which the current location lacks.
“That’s a big, big deal, that we’ve been kind of trying to work towards, but it’s just difficult with the way the setup of the [current] building is and the parking lot,” said Salazar. “We found this building, and it just all worked out for us to be able to sign the lease and get the deposit put down.”
With construction nearing completion, Salazar says the new location is planned to celebrate its grand opening on March 28.
“We’re excited to be back on that side of town,” said Salazar.
