Here's how Arisela Perez' strong performance helped IWA softball reach state title game

IWA pitcher Arisela Perez has been a key reason why the Angels are playing in the TAPPS state tournament for the second time in three seasons.

Perez, who already broke the school record for most strikeouts in a game earlier this season, continued her dominance in the circle in the team’s biggest game yet.

Facing Holy Cross with a trip to the state title game on the line, Perez pitched seven strong innings, allowing four hits, no walks and struck out 11 to help the Angels secure a 2-1 win during Thursday’s state semifinal game at Allan Saxe Field in Arlington.

Perez also did her part at the plate after tying the game in the fourth inning with an RBI double. Kameron Bean connected on a go-ahead RBI single in the fifth inning to back Perez and give IWA the lead for good.

The Angels finished with five hits behind Perez, Bean, Addie Aleman and Harper Phillips, who led the team with two hits.

IWA will try and win its first TAPPS state championship when it faces either Dallas Christian or Lubbock Christian at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 10 back at Allan Saxe Field on the campus of UT-Arlington.
