Gerry Glasco earns contract extension, pay raise after Texas Tech softball's WCWS run

Gerry Glasco has had another year added to his contract and earned a small pay raise after leading the Texas Tech softball team to heights unseen in his first year as the program’s head coach.

Glasco’s initial deal with Texas Tech was set to expire at the end of the 2029 season. His new contract, obtained by the Avalache-Journal through an open records request, now runs through the 2030 season.

The deal was finalized in early July, a month after the Red Raiders finished their run in the 2025 Women’s College World Series, falling to Texas in the decisive Game 3 of the championship series.

Glasco’s first deal called for him to make a combined $1,077,284 for the 2026, 2027, 2028 and 2029 seasons. The new contract will earn Glasco $1,470,000 over the next five years, with the last three years earning him $300,000 per year, following salaries of $280,000 for the 2026 season and $290,000 for the 2027 campaign.

Supplemental compensation Glasco can earn is unchanged from his previous deal. The head coach will earn one month’s salary for each achievement including a Big 12 championship, regional qualifier, super regional qualifier and a WCWS qualifier. He earns a half-month’s salary for earning the conference coach of the year and a $20,000 bonus for winning a national championship.

During the final two years of Glasco’s deal, he is set to receive a total of $30,000 ($10,000 from July 1, 2028, to June 30, 2029, and $20,000 from July 1, 2029, to June 30, 3030) for rights fees for outside athletics related income. These include contracts with apparel and shoe companies, such as adidas. Glasco did not have rights fees in his previous contract.

Should Glasco be terminated without cause by the school during the life of this deal, he will be payed an amount equal to 70% of the remaining annual base salary starting one month after termination. If Glasco were to leave for another job, he will owe Texas Tech 30% of his remaining salary.

Glasco led the Red Raiders to numerous program records in his first year as head coach. Led by NFCA All-American NiJaree Canady, Texas Tech brought home the Big 12 regular-season and tournament titles, hosted a regional, won a Super Regional and advanced to the Women’s College World Series for the first time in program history.

Texas Tech is expected to match and possibly exceed last season’s successes in 2026 after bringing in the No. 1 transfer class, led by fellow NFCA All-Americans Jazzy Burns (Ohio State), Taylor Pannell (Tennessee) and Mia Williams (Florida).
